Honest comparison

BigSpy — the free tier, the breadth, the fine print

BigSpy searches ten ad networks and gives away five queries a day for nothing, which makes it the cheapest way into this category by a distance. Here is exactly what the free plan covers, what the refund terms say, and the point where browsing stops being enough.

BigSpy, as published on their own site

Free plan
5 queries and 20 ad saves per day, on the Facebook platform only. No card required.
Paid plans
Five tiers in total — Free, Basic, Pro, Group and VIP Enterprise — plus a $1 three-day Pro trial. BigSpy does not publish the tier prices in a form we could read, so we are not quoting numbers we cannot verify.

Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, AdMob, TikTok, Unity, Pinterest, Yahoo and Pangle.
Coverage
70+ countries and 23+ languages, per their own FAQ.
Refunds
Full refund within 24 hours of your first payment only — explicitly not renewals, upgrades or repurchases. “We do not guarantee refunds for lack of usage or dissatisfaction.”

The free tier, and the exact line where it stops

BigSpy is the only tool in this category with a free plan that is genuinely usable rather than a disguised demo, and it deserves credit for that. No card, no expiry, and you can start searching in about a minute.

The limits are specific and worth knowing before you build a habit around it: five queries a day, twenty ad saves a day, and the Facebook platform only. That is enough to check whether a particular brand is advertising, or to browse creative in a niche for ten minutes. It is not enough to do a week's research, and the moment you want the other nine platforms the free tier has nothing for you.

Above free there are four paid tiers — Basic, Pro, Group and VIP Enterprise — plus a three-day Pro trial for a dollar. We are not going to quote you prices for those. BigSpy's pricing page renders its numbers in the browser and publishes nothing we could read directly, the third-party articles that claim to know disagree with each other by wide margins, and inventing a competitor's price is not something a comparison page should do. Check their pricing page yourself; the $1 trial is a cheap way to see the paid product before committing.

What BigSpy does better than we do

Three things, plainly.

It covers more platforms than we do, and we are not close. It costs nothing to start, which we cannot match — we have no free tier and every plan begins with a card on file. And it lets you browse without knowing what you are looking for, which is a real mode of working that our product does not support at all: we need you to name a competitor before we can do anything.

If your honest need is “show me interesting ad creative across a lot of surfaces, for as little money as possible”, BigSpy is the better answer and you should stop reading here. It is also worth knowing that most of those platforms publish their own free ad libraries, which cost nothing and have no daily query cap at all — a paid aggregator earns its keep by being faster and unified, not by being the only way in.

  • Ten ad networks, including the mobile in-app ones nobody else indexes.
  • A free plan with no card and no expiry.
  • Open-ended browsing, when you do not yet know which advertiser you care about.
  • A $1 three-day trial of the paid tier before you commit properly.

Read the refund policy before you enter a card

This is the part most reviews skip, and it is unusually strict. BigSpy's published policy states that as a SaaS provider its products are “non-tangible and irrevocable”, so refunds are not issued once an order is completed.

There are two carve-outs. Errors caused by a system bug, and a full refund within 24 hours of your first payment — where first payment is defined explicitly to exclude renewals, plan upgrades and repurchases. The policy then says in plain words: “We do not guarantee refunds for lack of usage or dissatisfaction.”

The practical consequences are worth spelling out. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period without notice, so a plan you stopped using in March is still charging you in June with no refund available. Cancelling is done in the product under Profile, then My Plan, then cancel the subscription, and it takes effect at the end of the period you already paid for. None of this is hidden — it is on their refund page — but it does mean the $1 trial and the free tier are the sensible way to evaluate, rather than paying for a month and expecting to undo it.

Breadth is not the same as attention

Ten platforms and a billion creatives is an enormous surface, and that is precisely what makes the daily query cap sting: the more there is to look at, the more the tool depends on you showing up to look.

Nothing in a search product notices that a competitor launched six ads on Tuesday and killed their hero creative on Thursday. Working that out means running the same searches every week, keeping the previous results and comparing them by hand — which people genuinely do, with a calendar reminder and a screenshot folder, for about a month. Automating that comparison is the whole of what we sell: started, stopped and still-running diffs on the brands you named, with an AI read on top.

The other difference is what comes out of it. BigSpy hands you a screen. We hand you an email when something changes, a weekly digest, a swipe file that fills itself, and a client-ready PDF or share link carrying your own branding rather than ours. For an agency that reports to clients monthly, that last part is usually the entire argument.

A note on the database numbers

BigSpy's marketing quotes both “100,000,000+ ads” and “over 1 billion pieces of ad creative data” in different places on their own site. We have no way to reconcile those, so we have not built any argument on either number.

What is checkable — the platform list, the free-tier limits and the refund terms — is what this page uses.

Which one to choose

Buy BigSpy if…

  • You advertise a game or an app and need AdMob, Unity or Pangle coverage.
  • You want to browse creative across many platforms from one search box.
  • Your budget for this is zero, or close to it.
  • You are exploring, and cannot yet name the advertisers that matter.

Buy Rival Ads if…

  • You can name the five brands you actually compete with.
  • You want to be told what changed, not go looking for it.
  • Alerts, weekly digests and a self-filling swipe file are the point.
  • You resell this to clients and it has to carry your brand.

BigSpy questions, answered straight

Is BigSpy actually free, or is it a trial?+

Genuinely free, with limits. The free plan gives 5 queries and 20 ad saves per day on the Facebook platform, needs no credit card and does not expire. The other nine platforms and unrestricted searching sit behind the paid tiers.

Which ad platforms does BigSpy cover?+

Ten, per their own FAQ: Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, AdMob, TikTok, Unity, Pinterest, Yahoo and Pangle, across more than 70 countries and 23 languages. AdMob, Unity and Pangle are mobile in-app networks, which is coverage almost no competing tool offers.

How much do BigSpy's paid plans cost?+

We are deliberately not quoting a figure. BigSpy runs five tiers — Free, Basic, Pro, Group and VIP Enterprise — and offers a $1 three-day Pro trial, but the prices are rendered in the browser rather than published in a form we could verify, and the third-party articles quoting them contradict each other. Check bigspy.com/pricing directly.

Can I get a refund if BigSpy is not what I expected?+

Probably not. Their policy allows a full refund within 24 hours of your first payment, explicitly excluding renewals, upgrades and repurchases, plus refunds for system bugs. It also states directly that refunds are not guaranteed for lack of usage or dissatisfaction. Use the free plan or the $1 trial to evaluate instead.

Does BigSpy renew automatically?+

Yes, at the end of each period and without notice, until you cancel. Cancellation happens under Profile, then My Plan, and takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for — no partial refund is issued for the remainder.

Can BigSpy alert me when a specific competitor launches new ads?+

It is built for searching and browsing rather than watching a named advertiser and reporting back, so catching a launch means repeating your searches and comparing results yourself. Scheduled fetching, automatic diffing and email alerts on competitors you name are a different product shape, which is the one we build.

Five searches a day, or nothing to search at all.

Name your competitors once and we take it from there — fetching their ads on a schedule, archiving every creative before the public libraries drop it, and mailing you the moment something new appears. No daily query cap, because you are not the one running the queries.

Rival Ads tracks competitors on Meta, Google, TikTok and LinkedIn. Every plan includes a 30-day free trial. Plans start at $29/month.
