How to see a competitor's ads for free
Every large ad platform now publishes the ads running on it. Meta, Google, TikTok, LinkedIn, Microsoft and Pinterest each keep a public library you can search without an account, and the advertiser is never told you looked. The search box above deep-links into all six with the filters set.
The searches that waste the most time are keyword searches on a common brand name. Search the word and you get every advertiser who used it in their copy. Search the advertiser and you get their own ads. Four habits make the difference:
- Start from the competitor's website and follow its own Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn link. That is the Page or company the ads run from.
- Search Google's Transparency Center by domain rather than by name. One domain can hide several advertiser accounts.
- Set the country to the market you compete in. Libraries index ads by where they were shown, so a UK search misses a US launch.
- Filter to active ads first, then note the start date and the number of versions on each one. Those two details carry most of the signal.
What to look for in a competitor's ads
An ad library tells you what is live. Reading it well tells you what is working, because a competitor's budget leaves traces even when the library publishes no spend.
- Run time. An ad still live after 60 or 90 days is the closest public signal of a winner. Nobody keeps paying for a loser.
- Versions. Several cuts of one concept mean they are testing it. Count them, and you know how seriously they test.
- Hooks and angles. The first line or first three seconds tell you which pain, promise or proof they lead with.
- Offers and landing pages. The destination shows the real offer: a discount, a free trial, a quiz, a demo.
- Bursts and silences. Ten launches in a week is a campaign. An account that goes quiet is a budget cut or a strategy change.
- What stopped. The ads a competitor switched off tell you what failed, and you only see them if you looked before they vanished.
Why checking ad libraries by hand stops working
Looking once is easy. Keeping up is where it breaks. Meta removes an ordinary commercial ad from its library the day it stops running, unless it was delivered in the EU or UK, so a competitor's failed test disappears before you knew it existed. No library tells you what changed since your last visit, none of them alert you to a launch, and each one covers a single platform.
So teams screenshot into a shared folder, forget for three weeks, and miss the launch that mattered. That gap is what a competitor ad tracker closes.
Track competitor ads automatically with Rival Ads
Rival Ads watches the competitors you name across all six ad libraries and keeps everything it finds, even after the ad leaves the library. Every sync compares their whole account with the last one, so you see what started, what stopped and what kept running. New launches reach your inbox, Slack or Teams the sync they appear.
Each ad is transcribed and broken down into its hook, angle and audience, the landing page behind it is captured with a dated price history, and an AI strategy read turns the week's changes into what your team should do next. Agencies run the same thing under their own brand for clients.
- Real creatives and word-for-word copy from Meta, Google, TikTok, LinkedIn, Microsoft Ads and Pinterest
- Started, stopped and continued ads, with run time on every card
- Alerts for new launches, for ads that prove themselves and for winners they pull
- Video transcripts, hooks and angles for every ad, searchable across all your competitors
- No ad account to connect and no login to their tools: the competitor never knows

Stop checking six ad libraries by hand
Name your competitors once. Rival Ads collects every ad they run, keeps it after it stops, and tells you what changed and what to do about it.
Rival Ads tracks competitors on Meta, Google, TikTok, LinkedIn, Microsoft Ads and Pinterest. Microsoft Ads coverage is limited to EU/EEA impressions. Pinterest covers the countries offered by its repository, including the EU, Brazil, Norway and Türkiye. Plans start at $29/month.
Competitor ads: common questions
How can I see my competitors' ads?+
Search the public ad library for each platform they advertise on: the Meta Ad Library for Facebook and Instagram, the Google Ads Transparency Center for Search, Display and YouTube, and the TikTok, LinkedIn, Microsoft and Pinterest libraries for theirs. All are free and need no account. To keep seeing them over time, a tracker like Rival Ads checks every library on a schedule and keeps each ad after it stops.
Can I see how much a competitor spends on ads?+
Not for ordinary commercial ads. The libraries publish no spend, impressions or conversions for them. Meta publishes reach for ads shown in the EU and UK, LinkedIn publishes impression ranges, and Pinterest publishes reach bands, and Rival Ads shows those where they exist. A tool that quotes a competitor's exact spend is estimating it.
Will a competitor know I am looking at their ads?+
No. The ad libraries are public and do not notify advertisers about searches. Rival Ads reads the same public libraries and never logs in to, or connects with, a competitor's accounts.
How do I find a competitor's Google ads?+
Open the Google Ads Transparency Center and search the competitor's website domain. It returns every advertiser account tied to that domain, with their Search, Display, Shopping and YouTube ads and the dates each was shown. Set the region to the country you compete in.
How do I track competitor ads automatically?+
Add a competitor to Rival Ads by pasting their website. It detects their Facebook Page, Google, TikTok and LinkedIn presence, collects every ad they run, and checks again every three to seven days depending on your plan, alerting you to new launches. Plans start at $29 a month with a 30-day free trial.
Is it legal to look at competitor ads?+
Yes. The platforms publish these libraries precisely so that anyone can see the ads running on them. Reading public ads is ordinary market research. Copying another brand's creative or trademarks is a different matter, so use what you learn to sharpen your own work.
